This interesting watercolor drawing is signed by Henri-Gabriel Ibels. It depicts a lively popular café scene, the owner behind the counter with a bottle in his hand, a man expressing his opinions in front of two workers seated at a table, another in the background and a butcher on the right. It is captioned "... Suppress the Tribune! It means suppressing Eloquence!! It means suppressing Jaurès!!! " (sic) in the hand of the artist whose verve is particularly recognizable. The subject represented and its design are very close to those of the famous illustrated newspaper L'Escarmouche. Circa 1993 - 1997. Signed " H G Ibels " at left bottom.
