Léonie Humbert-Vignot was a student of Alexandre François Bonnardel (1867-1942) at the Ecole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, then of Marie Laforge, Marcel Baschet, Henri Royer and Edouard Toudouze at the Académie Julian in Paris. After her art studies, she began to exhibit from 1896, both in Lyon and Paris. She was then accepted at the Salon des Artistes français around 1908, and exhibited there all her life. Her real exhibitions began in 1918, at the Salon of the Société lyonnaise des Beaux-Arts.
Humbert-Vignot was a post-impressionist painter. She was inspired not by previous eras but by her own time, which gave her a completely accurate point of view. She mainly painted nudes, portraits, war scenes, or flowers, after the Great War. Her inspirations came from Spain and particularly from gypsies. According to the archives, portraits of gypsies represent the majority of her work. Her war paintings allowed her to externalize her feelings. She painted bodies damaged by war, as well as emaciated bodies. Following her exhibitions, she received many prizes and awards.
