"Boulle Marquetry Cartel "
A CLOCK in Boulle marquetry of red tortoiseshell and brass engraved with a "Bérain" decoration. The clock is richly ornamented with chiseled and gilded bronzes such as fire pots, acanthus leaf scrolls, flower garlands, mascarons and appliques of crowned women's heads in sheaths. It is topped with an ogee-shaped Fame on a balustraded terrace. The glass door on the front is decorated with a cupid studying a globe surrounded by allegories of Science and Abundance. It reveals a dial with enameled cartouches indicating the hours in Roman numerals, the minutes in Arabic numerals, the repoussé decoration of a globe surrounded by horns of plenty surmounted by a fleur-de-lis lyre with crossed quivers. It rests on four feet decorated with bronze guivres. Strikes the hours and half-hours. Movement signed "Lagarde à Paris" Quality work in Louis XIV style, 19th century.
