Basque School, late 19th, early 20th century, depicting a beach landscape. Probably a beach in Guéthary, the painter having settled in this Basque village. Signed "E.Gelos". Édouard Gélos (1878-1945) was a French painter from the Basque Country. A resident of the Casa Velázquez in Madrid, he settled after the First World War in Guéthary, where a street bears his name. He is known for his misty seascapes and scenes of the Basque coast. A member of the Association of Basque Artists, he also created decorative panels for the Nouvelles Galeries de Dax. A passionate traveler, he enriched his collection of works in Spain and Portugal. His creations have been exhibited in Bilbao, Pau and Bayonne. Some of his works adorn the church of Guéthary. Good general condition, some wear and slight cracks to report. Baguette frame. Dimensions without frame: 27 / 22.5 cm
