Georges is the third son of the painter Camille Pissarro who was his first teacher. Manzana-Pissarro is influenced by Japanese prints as much as Gauguin's Tahitian and Martinican scenes and develops a penchant for orientalism which is reflected in the use of gold, silver and copper paint with which he enhances his watercolors of fish and birds. Also interested in applied arts, he studied the English Arts & Crafts movement in London. Nourished by all these influences and experiences, he gives life to his very particular and dreamlike style which unfolds on backgrounds often made of silver, gold and bronze.
