Bronze peace bearer. Spain, 18th century. The plaque that forms this element, used in Antiquity during masses to give the kiss of peace with decorum, has been decorated with different reliefs: in the lower part, plant foliage, vine leaves, bunches of grapes and ears of wheat, in clear allusion to the Eucharist; a semicircular arch under a palm-shaped finial highlighted by foliage; and, in the center, a relief of the Goddess: Christ on the Cross, flanked by the Virgin Mary and Saint John the Evangelist. The decorative motifs of this work, like the figures, show a clear influence of classical Antiquity. -
