"Tonsillotome By Charrière, Circa 1850"
A very fine, well-preserved example of a classic French Velpeau-type tonsil extractor, based on the Fahnestock model that Velpeau modified/improved. The instrument is signed Charrière and dates to around 1850-1860. It is a double-forked, three-ring model with a lovely little guilloché ebony handle. The instrument is rust-free and works perfectly. It is 30 cm long.
