Object description :

"Horse Hunters' Sabre"
Strong horse hunter saber, probably belonging to a non-commissioned officer.
Handle entirely filigree with a succession of simple and twisted brass wires. Cap with long tail decorated with line. Rounded guard branch joining the crossguard at right angles. Ball-shaped quillon. Rectangular lugs decorated with a relief in their center.
Flat, slightly curved blade, lightened by three grooves over almost its entire length. It bears on the heel the lictor's fasces, a reception hallmark used by the Klingenthal factory from 1793 to 1799.
Very strong scabbard with two brass fittings connected together by two reinforcing splints revealing the blackened leather sheathing. These fittings are cut in an ogee and decorated with line. Thin asymmetrical iron dart.
This is a weapon clearly intended for combat characteristic of the Directoire period (1795 - 1799).
