"Late 16th Century Pair Of Oil Paintings On Wooden Panels"
Elegant
pair of oil paintings on wooden panels, depicting Jesus and the Madonna in
their youthful physiognomy. Originally part of a larger wooden altarpiece,
these two works are now presented as precious fragments. Both Jesus and the
Madonna are adorned with halos and wear tunics and dresses rich in color, the
details of which are rendered with extraordinary finesse. Their gazes, turned
downwards, emanate a candor and serenity that are striking. The painting
technique used recalls the great masters of the 15th and 16th centuries, such
as Raphael, highlighting the artist's skill. The frames, in carved wood and
finished with bole, complete the works with a touch of elegance, even without
gilding. The paintings are attributed to a painter from the Tuscan area, active
around the end of the 16th century.
