Unusual teapot made using the Totai Shippo technique, one of the variations of the cloisonné technique. In this case, the cellular enamel does not cover the metal but the porcelain vessel, which is additionally painted with a cobalt underglaze in the area not covered by the enamel decoration. The decoration depicts, among other things, a peony flower and floral and geometric ornaments.
Japan, Meiji era (1868-1912).
