"Rare Early 18th Century Chinese Black Lacquer Export Desk"

A fine and rare early 18th century Chinese export writing desk (for the English market) resting on its original stand. With ebonized and gilt surface decorated in the Chinese taste with birds, flowers and foliage. A sloped gilt-bronze escutcheoned lid which opens to reveal an interior fitted with nine small drawers and a lidded case. The inner drawer backs are decorated with calligraphic inscriptions. Bold scrolled and gilt legs with cabriole feet. This fine piece of furniture also retains its original brass hinges and lock. Measures: 39-1/2 x 40 x 23 inches. 100 cm x 101.5 cm x 58.5 cm.
