Circa 1850-1880FrancePrecious Baby's Brim in piped straw embroidery dating from the French Second Empire period. This is a small oval-shaped helmet used to protect the heads of young children learning to walk. Made in knotted and openwork piped straw embroidery, it is encircled by a Prussian blue velvet brim with a reminder on the top, also applied with blue velvet chenille. Inside, a band of white tarlatan gauze and an elastic band added later. Fragile and moving collector's item with some repairs to the straw at the openings. Only flaw to report. Good structural condition.
