"Roman Denarius From The Republican Period Mounted On A Tie Pin "
Roman silver denarius, struck around 145 BC, from the Antestia family, and mounted in the 19th century as a tie pin. It represents on the obverse a helmeted head, symbol of Rome and on the left the name of the family. On the reverse are struck the Dioscuri galloping to the right, a dog in front of them, accompanied by the name of the city ROMA. The light silver mount was made in the 19th century, when it was customary to adorn one's tie with a studded jewel. This may be a souvenir of the Grand Tour. The coin remains in good condition, very clean of engraving.
