"The Young Violinist By Alf Wallander (1862-1914)"
Watercolor on paper, late 19th century, depicting a young violinist, probably a choirboy. Slightly faded signature top left "A.Wallander". Alf Wallander (1862-1914) was a Swedish painter and designer influential in the Art Nouveau movement. Trained at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts and in Paris, he began as a genre painter before turning to applied arts. In 1895, he joined the Rörstrand porcelain factory, becoming artistic director in 1900. There, he created iconic pieces with organic and fluid patterns, exhibited at the 1900 World's Fair in Paris. A member of the Konstnärsförbundet, he rubbed shoulders with major artists of his time. His work continues to influence Swedish design. Good overall condition, small tear to report at the top right.
