Prize medals were a prestigious tradition in religious educational establishments of the 19th century, rewarding academic excellence and exemplary conduct of students. Description of both sides • Obverse (main face): • Precisely engraved relief inscription: “PRICE OF HONOR AWARDED TO MR JEAN LOUBET, FOURTH-GRADE STUDENT, AT THE COMMUNITY OF CLERCS OF TOULOUSE. JULY 30, 1882.” • Elegant typography, typical of academic distinction medals of the 19th century. • Polished and well-preserved surface, with deep, clear engraving. • Reverse (heraldic side): • Coat of arms of Cardinal Florian Desprez, Archbishop of Toulouse. • Coat of arms framed by cardinal attributes: • Archiepiscopal cross surmounting the shield. • Cardinal hat with fifteen tassels on each side, symbolizing the rank of cardinal. • Divided coat of arms, including an anchor and the initials AM, probably a religious motto. • Circular inscription: “FLORIANUS CARDINALIS DESPREZ ARCHIEPISCOPUS TOLOSANUS.” • Fine engraving work, with details still very legible.
