Spectacular mythological bronze sculpture of the Grand Tour depicting Mercury or Hermes flying. In Greek mythology, Hermes was the messenger of the gods, the protector of travelers, traders and herds. He wears the petasus (small, round, flat winged hat) and the caduceus around which two snakes are coiled.
The wings at his feet allow him to move quickly and are one of his distinctive signs. Mercury, represented as an athletic young man, is propelled into the air by a baby blower.
In his momentum, he raises his arm, indicating the sky, the source of divine knowledge.
The sculpture rests on an onyx base.
Very good quality casting and in perfect condition.
