Multiple Rotating Or Roulette Seals. English Seal, 19th Century.

Superb and very rare revolving seal dating from the 19th century. It is most likely English work, circa 1830.

The seal wheel comprises six colored glass seals imitating hard stones, held in a gilt bronze setting. The setting is richly decorated with large floral scrolls, palmettes, and other motifs. The handle of the seal is made of mother-of-pearl.

Each seal is engraved with a symbol and a small motto.

"Cor supra mudum" with a heart on a globe.

"Dépêchez vous" with Cupid shooting an arrow at a bird.

"Prenez garde" with a mouse entering a trap.

"Répondez vite" with a dove holding an envelope in its beak.

"Il m’a bien guidé" with Cupid on a boat.

"je reviendrai" with a setting sun.

A superb revolving seal, in beautiful condition, a charming testament to the Romantic period.
