Object description :

"Pewter Wine Pitcher - Champagne, 18th Century"

Pewter pitcher with a quasi-cylindrical body and neck, with a tasseled thumb rest.
Height: 20.7 cm.
CHAMPAGNE, 18th century

In very good condition, not hallmarked, this beautiful example probably comes from the molds of a master from Troyes or Bar-sur-Aube.
This medieval-inspired form is characteristic of the productions of the Champagne region. It is particularly noticeable in TROYES but also with small variations in neighboring centers.
This elegant and sober typology is rare to encounter and bears control and master's hallmarks and is sold at public auction for between €700 and €1200.
Generally speaking, these pitchers were the wine measures of the Ancien Régime.
