This painting on metal, by a painter from the circle of the Polish painter Alexander Orlowski (1777–1832), echoes his style: impetuous movement, expressive horses, and dynamic storytelling.
Orlowski, active in Saint Petersburg, was one of the pioneers of Russian lithography and a master of military and popular genre scenes. Oil on metal in good condition, period gilt frame with the handwritten inscription “A Russian Cabinet Courier”.
