Jörg Madlener
Jörg Madlener was born in Germany in 1939, lived 35 years in Belgium and currently lives and works in the United States. His paintings have been exhibited throughout Europe and the United States. A winner of the Venice Biennale and the São Paulo Biennale, he has participated in solo exhibitions at FIAC in Paris, Art Basel, ARCO Madrid and the Chicago and Los Angeles art fairs. His works have been exhibited in numerous museums, such as the Solomon Guggenheim Museum, the Museum of Modern Art in Brussels and the Albertina in Vienna. He taught at the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany, and at various academies in Brussels. He designed sets for theater and opera in Europe and the United States. In 2000, the Transit Gallery organized the exhibition Jörg Madlener, America, 7 Times. This exhibition brought together works from several of the artist's stays in the United States, notably on Long Island and the Hamptons. In 2006, the Kunsthalle Kempten, Germany, acquired a major selection of Madlener's works. These are on permanent display there.
