Lively and detailed relay scene, typical of Russia or Poland in the 19th century. Beautiful, abundant composition in the spirit of the Polish painter Alessandde Orlowski, between picturesque and social observation. This beautiful oil on metal depicts a winter scene in a post house, probably located in Russia or imperial Poland.
Around horses drinking, a whole gallery of characters is active: soldiers, travelers, children, street vendors. All in a popular, lively, and finely observed atmosphere.
The work is in the style of the Polish painter Alexandre Orlowski (1777–1832), a great chronicler of scenes of daily life, of the military and of the common people. We find his influence here in the rhythmic composition, the expressive faces and the attention to detail.
