Large round pewter PLATTER with a molded edge, known as venison.
Town hallmark: double crowned palm.
Hallmark with a crowned M of a traveling controller.
Hallmark of Rombaud Ignace FLAMENT, received as a master in 1741: crowned hammer / RIF / 1762.
Diameter: 42.3 cm.
DOUAI, Between 1762 and 1773
In good condition and dark patina, two tiny cracks of about 3mm on the edge are however noted.
The venison dish, always large, was used for the "natural" presentation of game or poultry, it then returned to the pantry to be cut and prepared for consumption.
