"An Important Arab Saber (saif) - Ottoman Syria, 18th Century"
An important Arab saif saber - Ottoman Syria, 18th century Arab saif saber most likely from Syria based on the style of the handle. Beautiful Ottoman blade of "kilij" shape, curved with single edge and strongly pronounced counter edge (called yelman). The spine of the blade in "T" section. Blade forged in a beautiful Damascus steel but whose grain has faded over time. Possibility of revealing the grain again after a good polishing and acid treatment. Silver handle and scabbard with floral and arabesque decoration (many dents in the silver and play at the level of the different elements). An Ottoman sultan's tughra is hallmarked many times on the silver. I think it could be the tughra of Selim III (1761-1808). Length 94cm Length without scabbard 92cm Blade length 79cm Weight 1600gr Weight without scabbard 888gr
