Object description :

"Legras-"printania", Pair Of Large Vases With Floral Decoration On A Marbled Background. Model Circa 1910"
François, Théodore LEGRAS (1839-1916) - Printania Series. Superb Pair of Ornamental Vases with ovoid body and open swollen neck in speckled multi-layer glass called "marmoreal" with warm yellow-orange and blue tones offering, centered on one of the faces of their body, within a cameo medallion set with a pearl, a floral composition. Acid-etched, this one engraved and enameled, displays spring flowers (daisies, marguerites, dahlias, hydrangeas, etc.), small stylized leaves whose vibrant and luminous polychromy favoring whites, yellow-gold, Chinese blue and "Nile" green is in perfect symbiosis with the theme chosen by the Master glassmaker. Forming "palmettes", arranged in a "fan" or in volutes with intertwined lines, fine stems animated by tendrils magnify the marble background, amplify the onemental adornment of these majestic Vases signed at the bottom of their side: "Legras". Paris, early 20th century, Art Nouveau period. Around 1910. With a striking presence, this beautiful pair of Ornamental Vases happily combines a curved silhouette of great formal plasticity, decoration with floral and ornamental motifs favored by the "naturalist" Art Nouveau aesthetic, and a deliberately chosen color palette. It also illustrates, not without brilliance, the artistic probity of François-Théodore Legras (1839-1916), a talented Master Glassmaker whose innovative work and technical virtuosity, adjusted to original models, established his reputation in his century - on a par with his peers (Emille Gallé, 1904-1936) and later, the Muller Brothers. Masterpieces for lovers of quality Glass and Crystal, representative of the French Decorative Arts of the Art Nouveau-Art Deco period. Materials: acid-etched multi-layer glass with a speckled background; engraved and polychrome enamelled decoration in reserve Dimensions: H.: 47 cm; - Diam. of the body: 20 cm; - of the base: 10 cm Signature: standing out on the marble background: "Legras" Paris, Quality work by Master Glassmaker F.-T.
