"Christ The Peddler, 15th Century, Bronze. "
Rare bronze peddler Christ, from the 15th century, still showing ancient traces of gilding. Christ is depicted on the cross, in a stylized posture, his head inclined, his arms outstretched, and his loincloth tied around his waist. These small Christs were designed for domestic use. At a time when few households could afford an altar or a private chapel, these religious objects allowed people to pray at home, mark liturgical times, or accompany them during difficult moments in daily life. They were often carried by peddlers and sold in the countryside, where access to religious objects was more limited. This model bears witness to the popular fervor of the late Middle Ages. It retains a beautiful old patina, with slight traces of gilding, visible particularly on the folds of the loincloth and around the neck.
