"Art Deco Incense Burner With Three Stylized Cranes – Charles Artus For Max Le Verrier, Circa 1930"
Art Deco style incense burner made around 1930 by the French sculptor Charles Joseph Artus (1897–1978), produced by the Max Le Verrier workshops. The object depicts three stylized cranes with slender, geometric lines, supporting a central container containing a cup, topped with an openwork lid. The latter allows the scented smoke to diffuse discreetly and elegantly. The whole is made of cast iron with a nuanced green patina, resting on a circular base of veined green marble. The style is typical of Art Deco: rigorous lines, balanced volumes, and a stylized evocation of the animal world. The work bears the signature "ARTUS" in relief on the base and the word "FRANCE", attesting to its production in the Parisian workshops of Max Le Verrier, a great 20th-century decorative art founder.
