By Jules BRATEAU (1844-1923)
"Art Nouveau" truncated cone-shaped tumbler in cast pewter with a flared base, decorated in relief with raspberry leaves and fruits. Near the lip, a ribbon bears the words "Mon goubelet ma mie" and suspends a medallion showing a cherub holding a cup. Clear hallmark of the artist and countermark "au gibet".
Height: 12.2 cm.
Before 1923.

Contemporary edition of the artist of the model created in 1889.
Partial wear of the mention at the top of the tumbler is noted.
Contrary to what we often hear, the works of this famous artist are not chiseled but "come raw from the cast iron". They are not chiseled. This technique required molds of high quality definition and perfect mastery of casting.
Bibliography: Jean-Christophe Boucaud: "Jules Brateau, 1844-1923
Generally speaking, all other marks including a crowned rose or various mentions indicate a post-mortem edition in 1923 from the GRAS et ETIENNE house which used Brateau molds until the 1960s.
Let us note in passing the play on sound intended by the artist between the representation of his counter-mark "at the gallows" and his initials JB
