Tuareg leather bag called arreg - Southern Algeria, Niger, late 19th early 20th century This bag comes from the inheritance of Aimée Wintzer née Collart, who lived in Algeria and Congo where she owned a factory around 1910. Trapezoid-shaped leather bag with a semi-circular flap. The presentation face is decorated with 4 circular appliques of white leather, a diamond and a triangle also in white leather and adorned with traditional Tuareg symbols. From the base of the bag hang numerous fringes and leather bands. The handle is made of a braided leather strap held by large braided leather buttons. The strap divides into 3, ending with fringes and leather bands. A very fine example of the art of leatherwork of the Targui people. Three leather pouches from the same provenance are included.
