"A Rare Chinese Yi Minority Saddle - China, Circa 1900"
A rare Chinese saddle of the Yi minorities - China, circa 1900 The Yi minority is an ethnic group living mainly in China in the provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan. It is composed of smaller ethnic groups such as the Nuosu, Lolo, Miao... In France, we know this ethnic group better from the beautiful and rare armor and helmets (whose construction and patterns are similar to this saddle) that have come down to us. In particular, a very beautiful and complete Yi armor is exhibited at the Musée du quai Branly in Paris. The saddle is made of wood and lacquered leather with traditional YI patterns and colors. Carved wooden stirrups and straps decorated with wooden beads. Some accidents and small losses, otherwise good condition. 24cm x 5cm x 29cm Approximately 2300gr
