"Orientalist Oil On Canvas Presenting A Young Kabyle Girl - Jean Hurstel, 1936"
Orientalist oil on canvas depicting a young Kabyle girl - Jean Hurstel, 1936 Painted in Algiers in 1936 by the French painter Jean Hurstel (1906-1991). Depiction of a young girl (who I think is Kabyle based on the pottery she is holding) in a bucolic landscape. Jean Hurstel was awarded the Abd-el-Tif Prize in 1935. The Abd-el-Tif villa is known as the Villa Medicis of Algiers. Between 1907 and 1962, this palace hosted and housed French painters.
