Pair of decorative bronzes in the Louis XVI style representing thyrses adorned with ribbons and laurel stems. Thyrses are scepters topped with a pine cone, an artichoke or a pomegranate, used during festivities and religious ceremonies. In Greco-Roman mythology, the thyrsus is the main attribute of Dionysus (Bacchus), and of the Maenads, then of the Bacchantes. It is a symbol of prosperity, fertility and hedonism.
