"Antique Bronze Dagger Typical Of The City Of Ur - Mesopotamia Or Luristan 2500-1000 Bc"
Ancient bronze dagger typical of the city of Ur - Mesopotamia or Luristan 2500-1000 BC This particular type of dagger seems to have been specific to the ancient city of Ur and its surroundings in the second half of the 3rd millennium (2500-2000 BC). Several examples were found there during excavations at Ur and KIsh in the 1920s. However, daggers of similar shape and proportions, often with a handle decorated with a stylized male head, have also been discovered during excavations at Luristan. According to André Godard, this similarity could be explained by the migration of the Kassite peoples to Luristan during the 2nd millennium BC. This dagger comes from an old Belgian collection formed in the 1970s. For an example of a similar dagger, see the British Museum inventory number 128761 NB: The book is not for sale.
