The entire surface is adorned with intricate leaf motifs, typical of the Neoclassical style. On the sides, the top, and at the center of the two drawers, finely inlaid amphorae recall the shapes of Etruscan and Greek vases, reflecting the influence of classical art, which was highly appreciated during the Louis XVI period.
The commode is entirely veneered in Bois de Rose, a precious wood known for its warm, rosy hue. The inlays are executed in walnut, maple, and rosewood, creating elegant contrasts. The structure is solid and made entirely of solid walnut, including the drawer bottoms and sides, the back panel, the lower base, and the top cover.
The decorative details extend beyond the marquetry: the corners feature fluted vertical inlays, while the tapered pyramid-shaped legs, also adorned with fine inlay work, give the piece a sense of lightness and refinement. The circular handles and keyholes are made of gilded bronze, enhancing the commode’s elegance and luxury.
In good condition, this commode is a superb example of late 18th-century Lombard craftsmanship, perfect for collectors and enthusiasts of period furniture and Neoclassical design.
