"Sabre From Ceylon (sri Lanka) Called Kastane, 17th Century"
Saber from Ceylon (Sri Lanka) called kastane, 17th century Handle with pommel carved with a dragon's head or chimerical animal. Steel guard with three quillons (two with a chimerical animal's head) and a guard branch also ending with a chimera's head. Curved single-edged blade. Particularly old example. 2 kastane similar in construction and dimensions are described in the "catalogue of the collection of ancient European and Oriental weapons of Charles Buttin" (1933), inventory number 845 and 846. Charles Buttin proposes a dating of the 17th century. Small accident on one side of the handle at the level of the jaw of the head (see last photo). Total length 55cm Blade length 42cm Weight 400gr
