"War Machine Arrowhead, Bronze With Green Patina"
This bronze point was most likely intended to equip a large arrow fired by a war machine of the ballista or scorpion type. The projectiles of these ballistas are in fact described as having 3 fins.The wood of these arrows had a length of around 2 cubits (about one meter). The use of these projectiles caused serious injuries to horses and men whose cuirasses or leather clothing were easily pierced.
The object comes from an old archaeological collection, but I am not a specialist enough for a more precise identification. It is made of bronze with a green patina.
Length of the fins 12 cm. Total length 17.5 cm.
