Marie-Désiré BOURGOIN owes her fame to her friendship with Sarah Bernhardt, of whom he was the painting teacher and whom he depicted on several occasions, notably in famous views of her sculpture studio. Often described as a landscape painter, Bourgoin also left numerous portraits, views of Paris, views of interiors and studios.
A student of Fournier d'Ajaccio, he was present at the Salon from 1861 to 1911.
Our watercolor, with fresh colors, presents a young woman at harvest, in peasant dress and carrying a large sheaf of wheat.
