Jean-Baptiste Berlot (1775-1836), Monks Praying in a Church, 1824. Probably the Abbey of Breuil in Normandy, a place that Berlot depicted on several occasions. A student of Hubert Robert, Berlot specialized in views of picturesque buildings and, from 1820, the year our painting was executed, turned to representations of medieval architecture. Most often in small formats. The period frame, currently being restored, as well as the stretcher have numerous inventory numbers. Signed lower left. Oil on canvas and original stretcher. 24 x 19 cmVery good condition.
