He received the bronze medal, Marine section at the Universal Exhibition of 1889. His paintings have a rare quality of realism and a beautiful mastery of colors as for example in this magnificent painting "The launching of the Hoche in Lorient in 1886" (National Maritime Museum). Our painting represents the portrait of a stranded boat. Well composed, it shows in particular a beautiful light and a very beautiful rendering of the sea.
