Rare Omani battle shield called terr - Oman or Zanzibar, 19th century Shield made from a single, very thick piece of compressed and shaped animal skin. The skins generally used were those of the rhincoceros, the hippopotamus and the water buffalo. The shield is decorated on the presentation face with two bronze stars which are used to rivet the handle to the back. The handle is made of the same animal skin and has the traditional bronze ring for hanging the shield when not in use. Diameter approximately 21cm Depth approximately 11cm Weight 735gr
