Antique Italian micromosaic reliquary frame containing a double-sided Agnus Dei - 19th century Description: This oval micromosaic reliquary frame, dating from the 19th century, contains a wax Agnus Dei (Lamb of God), a Christian symbol of purity and sacrifice. The frame is finely composed of tiny tesserae (micromosaics) of colored enamel, an Italian artisanal technique renowned for its precision and beauty. The tesserae, sometimes more than 800 per square centimeter, are assembled with exceptional care, testifying to the expertise of the master mosaicists of the time.
