Oil in excellent condition, cleaned and varnished according to the rules of the art. Born in 1895 in Avignon, he was a student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts d'Avignon where he received numerous awards. He participated in the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris, of which he was a member. He exhibited in the South of France, in Paris, Berlin, Brussels etc… He painted landscapes of Provence, the interior of France, the French Riviera, the surroundings of Marseille. The painter Pierre Grivolas, Director of the School of Fine Arts in Avignon, took his students to paint outside, teaching them to translate the phenomena of light in the depths of the undergrowth, the edges of rivers and lakes or the color palettes in the modeling of the rocks on the stony slopes of Ventoux. Gustave Vidal's style is to mix the technique of the knife with that of the brush. Thus in this painting the roughness of the rocks with the knife contrasts with the softness of the sea with the brush.
