"Blessed Agnus Dei Wax Reliquary, 18th Century"
Antique Agnus Dei dating from the end of the 18th century. The wax medallion in the center represents the Paschal Lamb protected by a convex glass and framed in a wooden frame. Perfect condition. Height: 17 cm, width: 15 cm. "An Agnus Dei" is a devotional object in the shape of a white wax medallion. It is usually blessed by the Pope during Holy Week. Of very ancient tradition, the "Agnus Dei" have not been manufactured since the mid-1960s. They are composed of white wax from the remains of the Paschal candle (those of the major basilicas) mixed with Holy Chrism. The wax of the candles offered to the Pope for Candlemas has also been added.
