"Crowned Virgin Mary In Nevers Earthenware, 18th Century"
Here is a Virgin giving birth in earthenware, probably from Nevers. It is a crowned Virgin standing on a terrace. The Virgin giving birth is a statuette frequently found in homes from the 18th to the 19th century. On the head of the Virgin, there is a hollowed-out crown at the bottom of which there is a hole two centimeters in diameter. Through this hole, holy water could be poured into the bottom of the statuette, but above all, a candle could be placed which was lit when the "labor" of the parturient began. As for the condition, we note a lack at the foot, a crack in the length (probably a firing defect), wear of the enamel, classic on earthenware objects. Our photos allow you to appreciate the quality of the object. Please detail the photos. Do not hesitate to zoom. The photos are an integral part of the description.
