Superb and LARGE TERRACOTTA VASE FROM THE HAN DYNASTY (-206 BC; + 220 AD)
The piece is originally only partially glazed creating surprise in the reading of this dark and shinier covering, compared to a matte and grey terracotta. It's here the process of creating ceramic itself, through its shape and glazing, that creates the aesthetics of the work.
The shape, which is uncommon, is very pure and simple, on a small narrow heel, giving it a real slenderness.
A few geometric motifs arranged in several registers of circular friezes are discreetly embossed on the upper and widest part of the ceramic.
The refinement is further enhanced by 4 discreet small handles barely sketched on the upper part, almost disappearing under its excavation patina when the holes are filled with the earth from its excavation.
Magnificent terracotta archaeological piece, with a timeless aesthetic that can easily be combined with a modern design as well as other archaeological pieces or ancient ceramics.
Dimensions
23cm diameter and 22cm height
Its condition is remarkable, even though the piece is extremely light, demonstrating once again the excellence of the Chinese ceramists of the Han period in the mastery of the arts of fire.
A magnificent archaeological piece in terracotta, with a timeless aesthetic that can easily be combined with a modern interior as well as other archaeological pieces or ancient ceramics.
