"the Fishing Party" By François-adolphe Grison (1845-1914)

Lovely painting, HST, depicting a fishing trip.
It shows two elegant women in dresses and hats fishing under the watchful eye of an infantryman and a bewildered fisherman.
One standing with a rod in hand watches her bobber, the other, seated, is untying a fish from its hook. On the lake, a boat with two fishermen, one with a net on his shoulder, the other smoking a pipe, watches these ladies and in the background, a man at the window of his house also contemplates the scene.
Behind the soldier, a couple of lovers laugh in the shade of a tree.
Very nice quality of painting, really well executed, certainly the most beautiful painting executed by Grison.
In a large period stuccoed and gilded wooden frame. Size with the frame: 110x90cm.
Provenance: Sale of the HDV of Saint Dié on 21/10/2007, bought for €31,500 at hammer price.
