Circa 1730​China for export to the WestAmazing Chinese evening dress for export to the West via the East India Companies and dating from the end of the Regency period, or beginning of the Louis XV period in France. Called Indian damask in relation to the maritime routes of the East India Companies in the 18th century, this type of golden yellow silk damask was a luxury product intended to make Court dresses or Flying dresses. Chinese-inspired pattern, with an exuberant decoration of acanthus leaves and stylized pomegranates. Apart from the stylistic aspect, the Chinese origin is attested by its selvedges, its large width of 74 cm but also by the composition of the satin which is a satin of 8. Note some micro soiling, some fly bites and very light and diffuse discolorations on one side. No holes or major defects. Good general structural condition considering its age.
