Box Of Holy Oils - End Of The 16th Or Early 17th Century

Rectangular pewter Holy Oils box with relief decoration of masks and foliage scrolls, resting on four molded feet.
Ownership mark engraved and dated on the outside bottom: Christian cross / 1613 / IVERDON.
Dimensions: 13.7 x 6.5 x 5 cm.
LYON or BESANCON, Circa 1600

This is from Yverdon-les-bains (near Lausanne).
Several boxes of this type have appeared on the market over the last forty years, with two types of lids, one in the shape of a semi-cylinder, the other with an ogee. Here the lid summarily replaces the missing original.
This type of box is extremely rare.
