Louis Delanois (1731-1792), master on July 27, 1761, is one of the greatest seat carpenters of the 18th century. His clientele is particularly brilliant with the Count d'Artois, the Prince de Condé for Chantilly and the Palais Bourbon, the Duke de Chartres and the Countess du Barry for her Versailles apartments and for Louveciennes. He is also the supplier of the King of Poland Stanislas II for the Warsaw Palace. He is at the origin of very avant-garde creations marked by the renewal of forms and decorations from 1750 with the uncovering of the ruins of Herculaneum and Pompeii. If the majority of his work is composed of Louis XV seats, Delanois thus plays a primordial influence on the evolution of the styles of the time and more precisely on the early formation of the Louis XVI style in the middle of the reign of Louis XV. It is said that the medallion backrest very fashionable under Louis XVI is precisely an invention of Delanois.
