"Statue Of A Woman Dancing In The Antique Style, Modeled By Michel Caryl Workshop In Provence"
This antique modeling in clay or plaster is from the Atelier Michel Caryl, the whole thing is decorative. This is a beautifully crafted neoclassical decoration. A female figure wearing a belted chiton under the chest, revealing her right breast. The position of the feet, the twisting of the upper body, and the clothing revealing her anatomy allow this figure to be interpreted as a dancing maenad. The statuette is inspired by a famous work by Lysippos, in bronze, created around 320 BC, representing the poetess Prassilla, from Sicyon, dancing and playing the flute to accompany her Bacchic songs. It may be the same statue described by Pliny, Natural History, XXXIV, under the name of the "temulenta tibicina," the drunken aulos player. We note some wear and cracks, however the whole remains in very good general condition. Our numerous photos allow you to appreciate the quality of the object. For the condition, please detail the photos. Do not hesitate to zoom. The photos are an integral part of the description. Dimensions: Height: 57.5 cm Base: 16 x 16 cm L2610
