Terracotta dragon or harpy head: fantastic animal derived from a dragon, its mouth open as if it were screaming.
Small black marble cubic base

Palmyra (present-day Syria, Persia)
2nd / 3rd century AD

* Width 4.4 cm
* and depth 5.2 cm

Fragmentary condition, missing upper jaw (please check photos)
Very nice quality of details of the dragon's expression
The artifact bear an old erroneous collection label attributing the artifact: "Egypt terracotta dragon head, Alexander 2nd 3rd AD". If the dating seems plausible, the origin of this attribution is wrong one.
